Jocelyn Friis

Jocelyn Friis is a New Zealand based artist.

She shares “My semi-abstract land and seascapes explore the deep connection between creativity, nature, and their profound ability to heal. Rather than depicting specific places, my paintings emerge intuitively, inspired by time spent in nature and the emotions it stirs. I work with acrylic and encaustic mediums, embracing spontaneity and flow. Acrylics allow for fast, expressive movement, while encaustic connects me to the ancient integrity of working with wax.

My process begins with uninhibited marks and colors, guided purely by intuition. As the painting evolves, I shift from raw expression to thoughtful refinement, balancing composition, values, and color relationships to bring the piece to harmony. My art invites viewers to pause, reflect, and connect—with nature, with themselves, and with emotions that words often fail to capture.

I believe in the healing power of art for both creator and viewer, offering a space for contemplation, hope, and personal growth. Each painting is an opportunity to find meaning—whether through a memory, a feeling, or a quiet moment of recognition. At its core, my work shares the message that art is for everyone, and that embracing both creativity and nature can bring peace and fulfillment.
